On 22 Baghdad development projects, construction work has begun. The combined value of the projects is worth 220 billion Iraqi dinars ($189 million), the Iraqi government said Tuesday.
The projects include building a five-star hotel, three modern hospitals and a power plant, constructing new ring roads around Baghdad and its suburbs linked to the national road network, and building a land communication network for about 40% of the city's neighborhoods.
Deputy Prime Minister for Service Affairs Saleh al-Mutlaq said, "The projects will significantly change the face of the capital."
Foreign, regional and local companies will conduct the work, which is slated to be completed by the end of next year, he said.
