A World Bank funded p0roject has been approved by Iraq to construct an international highway to Jordan to enhance trade between the two countries, the Ministry of Housing and Construction said Thursday (April 10th).
Iraqi Minister of Housing and Construction Mohammed al-Darrajy said, "The highway project will link Umm Qasr port in Basra province to Jordan's Aqaba port to ensure smooth movement of goods between the two countries."
The highway also will "create an international trade transit network in which Iraq is a hub" he said at a joint press conference with Jordan's Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halsa.
The project will boost the economies of Iraq and Jordan, and both will serve as international transit points for goods travelling via the Arab Gulf, Turkey and the Red Sea, he said.
